That is what put me off Malta or Cyprus."

The expat explained that while it "may be common in Europe," the ease of moving about on public transport is "the biggest benefit" for him.

He said: "Getting around to other areas is very easy. This part of France is very affordable. Rent, transportation, and food prices are very reasonable. It seems to be one of the most affordable areas."

Before moving abroad, Jeff worked out what he wanted to achieve as an expat in France.

He stated: "For me, it is what do you want to do? What are you planning on doing when you are there? Figure that out before you make the jump because you can go somewhere and discover that you do not want to live that way."

Consider what life you want to lead when living abroad, and let that help you shape your "decision".

Jeff, who is from originally from Atlanta in Georgia, explained: "Is it a matter of you are going to get a house, make some friends and hang out, or do you want to travel around?

"I am sure I can find a nice place to live in Cyprus and Malta, which is reasonably priced. But, [I did not want to go to the] beach all the time or play golf."

The expat encouraged people to find out what works for them through research and visiting areas and let that help them pick out where they want to move.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Expat shares the 'problem' with living on the Spanish coast - 'there are things I don't like'

'Incredible' country for expats boasts 'relaxed' lifestyle - 'a refreshing change from the UK'

Expats warned as Italy makes major law change for people seeking citizenship

Another expat shared her experience of moving abroad after moving to the Netherlands and explained that the small community meant it quickly felt like home.

She explained she had lived in Limburg, Netherlands, for just months before it started to feel comfortable.

Speaking on YouTube, expat Lauren Meyer said: "The number one [best] thing is living in a small community. I have been living here for just about five months now.

"[My area] has a population of roughly 40,000, so it's nothing too big but large enough to have access to everything you need."
